Sean Harkin has extensive experience in the financial services industry. Sean began their career in 2007 as a Credit Risk Modeller for NatWest Group. Sean then moved to KPMG in 2010 as an Executive Advisor (Manager) and to PwC in 2012 as a Principal Advisor (Senior Manager). In 2013, they joined Green Investment Group as an Operational Risk and Risk Modelling Manager. In 2017, they took on two roles, a Statistical Programmer & Director for Symmetry Analytics Ltd and a Teaching Fellow, Analytics and Modelling for the University of Edinburgh Business School. In 2019, they joined HSBC as a Risk Analytics Consultant, where they redesigned the bank's methodologies for risk modelling, data processing in risk analytics and related areas. In 2020, they moved to Tesco Bank as a Data Science Manager, where they led a data science team and advocated for data science innovation as an essential driver of bank competitiveness. Currently, they are the VP of Data Science and Commercial at Hubpay, where they are an ExCo member and leads the Data Science and Commercial departments.
Sean Harkin received their BSc in Biotechnology from the University of Galway in 2003, followed by an MPhil in Biochemistry from UCL in 2006. Sean then went on to obtain a PRM (Professional Risk Manager) from PRMIA in 2012. Most recently, they completed a PhD in Applied Statistics and Business Economics from the University of Edinburgh Business School in 2017.
