Will McBurnett has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Will is currently working as the VP of Engineering at HookBang since May 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Freelance Programmer for their own business starting in May 2001.
From June 2018 to April 2021, Will served as the Chief Technology Officer at Optios. In this role, they led a team responsible for designing and creating cutting-edge tools to enhance performance. Will also played a key role in the founding of the company and building the Austin studio.
Before joining Optios, Will worked at Intific, Inc. as the Director of Engineering / Director of Advanced Technology from January 2007 to June 2018. During this time, they were responsible for technological business development and overseeing various DARPA programs.
Will's earlier experiences include working as a Software Engineer at Breakaway Games in 2006, a Technical Manager at Multimedia Games, Inc. from 2003 to 2006, and a Senior Lead Programmer at Kinesoft from June 1999 to May 2001.
Will also had brief stints as a contractor at Compulsive Development in 2002 and a Contract Programmer at Beemania.com in 2001.
Will began their career at Origin Systems / Electronic Arts in July 1991, where they served as a Producer and Lead Programmer for combat simulation titles. Will managed a team of 20+ people during their time with the company.
Will McBurnett attained a B.S. degree in Computer Science and Political Science from Trinity University between 1987 and 1991. In addition to their degree, Will obtained two certifications: a Scrum Master certification from the Scrum Alliance in January 2009, and a Human Subject Research Basic Course certification from the Air Force Research Laboratory in July 2017.
