Mary Ann always said she would not be in insurance, but life circumstances and her mother’s example led her to pick a receptionist and book-keeping gig in the industry when it was offered. Digging into her passion for learning and progress, she got to work and followed job openings from personal lines to claims to commercial insurance— growing her knowledge and responsibilities in each role. While going above and beyond as an account manager at a well-known Indiana broker, Mary Ann realized that she was fully capable of undertaking a sales role, and she voiced that ambition when G&A reached out to her over 30 years ago. Then-president Dan Appel extended her an opportunity as an account manager with the promise to consider advancement, and—seeing her innate drive—he made good on that promise two years later. Since then, she has grown her book of business to multiple years of G&A Legendary Producer status, and she still has some accounts today that she did when she first began.
Hard work has always been a part of Mary Ann’s make up. When she does take time to relax, she enjoys reading historical fiction, walking outside and gardening—celebrating that sometimes you just need to get your hands in the dirt.
