Experience: Mallory started her career in journalism and marketing but always found herself working with youth—particularly middle and high school girls. After receiving her Master's Degree in Journalism in Mississippi, she moved to Austin with her husband and began working in marketing. She also joined the Girl Advocacy League and began volunteering with the Girls Empowerment Network during weekly Radiant G Circle groups. She also began volunteering at church youth ministry, coaching middle and high school basketball and cross country, and teaching writing to high school and college students. After four years in the marketing field, it soon became clear that her true passion was actually in working with youth — she decided to make the career shift and joined the program team at Girls Empowerment Network. In addition to being a Senior Program Coordinator in Central Texas the last three years, Mallory is also an organizer for Creative Mornings/Austin and teaches adjunct English courses at Austin Community College. In her free time, she loves to read, run, talk about the American South, do yoga, cook, and make homemade sour dough pizza with her husband, their toddler, two welsh corgis, and a tuxedo cat.
What I like about Girls Empowerment Network: I was raised a feminist and always felt empowered by the women in my life, but still wished I had something like the Girls Empowerment Network when I was in middle school! I love how the Girls Empowerment Network is not just about the messaging and idea of empowering girls, but giving girls the tools to create self-efficacy. I feel so honored to be a part of an organization by women created to instill confidence and empowerment into the women of our future.
