Laird Doran has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Laird began their career as a Summer Associate at Balch & Bingham LLP in 2000, where they provided assistance with trial preparation, legal research, and drafting pleadings. Laird then served as a Summer Associate at Baker & Hostetler LLP, gaining experience in technology law and intellectual property licensing.
In 2001, Doran joined Baker & Hostetler LLP as an Attorney, specializing in technology, franchise, and trade-related litigation. Laird later became a Partner at the firm, representing technology companies and motor vehicle manufacturers in disputes with franchised dealers.
Doran expanded their expertise by working as an Attorney at International Business Machines (IBM), where they focused on technology-related matters such as data privacy, data security, intellectual property licensing, and trade secret protection.
In 2011, Doran joined Gulf States Toyota as a Director and Senior Counsel, and later moved to The Friedkin Group in 2014, where they held the positions of Director of Government Relations and Senior Counsel, and eventually Vice President of Government Relations and Senior Counsel.
In 2018, Doran founded Laird Luxury Properties, LLC, and also served as an Election Judge at Harris County Clerk. This shows their entrepreneurial drive and civic involvement.
Doran's early experience includes working as a Legislative Aide/Intern for Senator Jane Nelson, where they assisted in policy areas such as education, budget, natural resources, health, insurance, and transportation. Laird also drafted legislation and analyzed the impact of proposed legislation.
Throughout their career, Doran has demonstrated expertise in technology law, litigation, government relations, and entrepreneurship.
Laird Doran began their education at J.J. Pearce High School, where they received their High School Diploma from 1991 to 1994. Laird then proceeded to The University of Texas at Austin from 1994 to 2001, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree with a focus on Government and Law. Additionally, they attended The University of Texas School of Law from 1998 to 2001, where they earned their Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree.
