Luke Fox

Head of Studio at Foster + Partners Limited

Luke Fox is a head of studio at the practice and part of the Design Board and the Partnership Board. He leads a team of designers in London, Hong Kong and Beijing on a wide range of international projects. He is originally from Sydney, Australia and studied architecture at the University of Sydney. After graduating he worked in New York and he joined Foster + Partners in 1998.

Luke has worked on many significant projects varying from infrastructure and offices to hospitality and residential. His recent schemes include new offices for Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba, in Shanghai; Jeddah Metro, where the practice was appointed to develop the architectural vision for Jeddah’s city-wide public transport plan; Sydney Metro’s new station designs; the design of four Haramain High Speed Rail stations in Saudi Arabia, connecting the cities of Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah and the developing King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC); Lusail Stadium in Qatar, the iconic venue for the 2022 World Cup; Murray Hotel, a new luxury hotel in Central Hong Kong; a new Four Seasons Hotel in the heart of Makkah for Jabal Omar; a new Headquarters for RMK in Russia using high quality exposed concrete structure; new developments in Russia, China, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam; the Slussen masterplan in the heart of Stockholm, Sweden and mixed-use residential schemes in Lebanon and Kuala Lumpur.

Previous projects include the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, airline lounges for Cathay Pacific at Chek Lap Kok International Airport, and the masterplan for West Kowloon Cultural District, all in Hong Kong.

Luke’s earlier projects at the practice saw him working on the design of the HSBC Headquarters at Canary Wharf, and he subsequently oversaw the construction of Tower Place in London, where he was the project architect on site until completion. He then moved to Beijing in 2003 as one of the project architects for the design and construction of the world’s largest and most advanced terminal building at Beijing International Airport. On returning to London he worked on a great number of schemes worldwide, including Crystal Island, an extensive mixed-use development on the Moscow River, and Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan, which responded to local building expertise and Amman’s climate. He was made a senior partner in 2009, and has been a head of studio since 2010 and senior executive partner since 2014.
