James Brooks has a diverse work experience spanning over 15 years. james started their career as a Special Investigator at MetLife and worked there for 12 years. After that, they joined Oneida Healthcare as an RN for two years. In 2018, they joined the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Case Management Nurse, where they worked until 2020. In the same year, they became a Client Service Director at FastTrack. Additionally, James worked at Unity Surveillance & Investigations, LLC as an Investigative Consultant since 2015.

James Brooks obtained their Associate's Degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from Mohawk Valley Community College from 1998 to 2000. james then pursued their Bachelor's Degree in General Studies from SUNY Polytechnic Institute, completing it from 2005 to 2010. In 2011 and 2012, James attended Leadership Mohawk Valley, although the degree name and field of study were not specified. james later earned their Master's Degree in Health/Health Care Administration/Management from Utica University between 2015 and 2019.

In addition to their formal education, James obtained certification as a Health Care Anti-Fraud Associate from America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) in October 2015.
