James A. MacKay is the AC Baugher Professor of Chemistry at Elizabethtown College, where responsibilities have included roles ranging from Assistant Professor to full Professor since July 2007. In addition to tenure at Elizabethtown College, MacKay held the position of Visiting Associate Professor at Binghamton University from August 2017 to August 2018, focusing on a National Science Foundation-funded research project involving nucleobase-modified PNA. Academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Michigan, completed in 2004, as well as a B.S. in Chemistry from Miami University, earned in 1998, with further academic experience at the University of Chicago from 2004 to 2007.
