John Heeg is an experienced fire instructor at Suffolk County Fire Academy since February 2023, also serving as a divemaster and assistant dive instructor at Hampton Dive Center since June 2022. In the educational sector, John has been a social studies teacher for Deer Park School District since September 2003, while mentoring first-year teachers since 2008. John’s contributions to emergency services include roles as a firefighter and EMT at Mattituck Fire Department since June 2004, a rescue specialist with the Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue Team from May 2009 to May 2016, and an aviation resource manager with the NY Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing since November 2011. Additionally, John has held roles in project recovery, security, and phlebotomy, and has served as the executive vice president of the Deer Park Teachers Association since May 2020. Educational qualifications include a BA in Sociology/Anthropology from Dowling College, an MA in Special Education from Touro University, and a Post Graduate Certificate in School District Leadership from Stony Brook University, among other certifications related to fire protection and emergency management.
