Nathan Deutscher currently serves as the Assistant Secretary and Chief Data Officer at Commonwealth Treasury since July 2018, after a progressive career that began at the same institution as an Analyst and Acting Manager. Deutscher also holds the position of Research Fellow at The Australian National University, starting in October 2020, and previously was a Sir Roland Wilson PhD scholar at Crawford School of Public Policy, focusing on intergenerational mobility in applied microeconomics from February 2015 to July 2018. Academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, a Graduate Diploma in Economics, and a Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) in Mathematics and Physics, all obtained from The Australian National University. In addition to roles in social policy, tax policy, and the international economy, Deutscher advised the Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer on various tax policies during earlier tenures.
