Robert Jones has a diverse range of work experience in higher education institutions. Robert currently serves as the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Clemson University since September 2014. Prior to that, they were the Dean of Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University from September 2010 to September 2014. Robert also served as a Professor and Department Head of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech from January 1995 to August 2010. In addition, they held the positions of Assistant and Associate Professor at Auburn University from June 1989 to September 1994. Robert began their career as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, University of Georgia from November 1986 to June 1989.
Robert Jones completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management from Clemson University in 1979. Robert then pursued a Master of Science degree in Forestry at the same university from 1979 to 1981. Following this, they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy degree in Forest Ecology from SUNY-ESF Syracuse between 1982 and 1986.
