Hector Tapia has a diverse work experience spanning various roles in city government, planning, and development. Hector started their career as a GIS and Long Range Planning Administrator for the City of Mesa in 2005. Hector then worked as an IT Logistics Coordinator for Safeway before transitioning into planning and project management roles. Hector served as a VP/Project Planner for HRCAST Planning Services, where they provided planning and GIS services for land owners and developers. Hector also worked as Assistant Public Works Director for the City of Nogales, overseeing planning and zoning activities. Tapia later became Deputy Development Services Director for the City of Goodyear, where they managed various projects and initiatives, including the update of the city's design guidelines. Hector also worked as Economic Development Director and Interim City Manager for the City of Somerton. Most recently, Tapia has held the role of Community Development Director for the City of Nogales. Throughout their career, Tapia has demonstrated leadership, strategic planning, and project management skills.
Hector Tapia completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Design, with a field of study in Architecture/Planning, from Arizona State University. This educational journey took place from 1978 to 1982. Hector then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems (MSCIS) from the University of Phoenix. This degree was earned between 2000 and 2001. Before attending Arizona State University, Hector Tapia attended the Institute of Technology of Sonora from 1973 to 1976, where they obtained a Bachelor of FM degree in Architecture/Construction. In addition to their formal education, Hector Tapia obtained the AICP certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners in June 1997.
