Mary Alvarez has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Mary has worked as the Human Resources Director and Interim Human Resources Director at the City of Hidalgo since June 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Safety and Risk Management Director at the same organization from July 2016 to June 2021. Mary also worked as an Online Instructor at the University of the People from June 2015 to 2017. Additionally, they have experience as a 4th Grade Math & Science Teacher at McAllen ISD from August 2015 to May 2016. Mary also worked as a Teacher: Elementary Bilingual Generalist and 5th Grade Bilingual Generalist Teacher at Valley View ISD from 2010 to 2016. Lastly, they served as a Math Intervention Teacher/Instructional Coach at IDEA Public Schools from August 2014 to February 2015, where they evaluated and adjusted the Math program to meet student and teacher needs.

Mary Alvarez holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree in Instructional Leadership from Northcentral University. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration from LeTourneau University. Their undergraduate education includes a Bachelor's degree in General Studies from The University of Texas-Pan American. In addition to their degrees, Mary has obtained certifications including EC-6 Bilingual Generalist from the Texas Education Agency and Principal Certification, also from the Texas Education Agency.
