Joel Smernoff has a long and varied work experience, beginning in 2006 with an Advisory Board Member role at Ugen Media. In 2010, they joined the Advisory Board at GoWatchIt.com and Nanotronics Imaging. In 2011, they became the COO of MarketSharing. In 2013, they joined the Advisory Board at Nutmeg Education and became the COO of Citia, a company that revolutionizes the way companies share information with customers and employees. In 2014, they joined the Membership Committee of the NY Tech COO Club. In 2017, they became an Advisor at Responder Ventures, LLC. In 2020, they became a Partnership Advisor at Dayforward, and in 2015 they became the Chairman of Black Umbrella, an emergency preparedness consulting firm.
Joel Smernoff holds a BSE in Naval Architecture from the University of Michigan and an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan - Stephen M. Ross School of Business. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including Community Emergency Response Team from the New York City Emergency Management Department in 2011, Coastal Storm Planning and Hurricane Sheltering from the New York City Emergency Management Department in 2010, FEMA IS-22 from FEMA in 2009, and Neighborhood Emergency Response Team from the San Francisco Fire Department in 1991.
