Paul Karr, a former Big 4 audit partner, has over 20 years’ experience in senior leadership roles in finance and controllership, including over 15 years in insurance and financial services at AIG, American Express and GE Capital. He also served as officer and director of companies undergoing bankruptcy reorganization. He provides hand-on leadership in improving closing processes, internal controls, accounting policy (US GAAP and IFRS), SEC financial reporting and restructuring. Examples of Paul’s accomplishments include: accelerating a closing process from 42 days to 14 days, establishing a robust analytics function to improve quality of financial reporting; remediating material weaknesses and other deficiencies in internal control over financial reporting (ICFR); and leveraging resources to timely address accounting issues, implement new accounting standards, improve quality of reporting, support M&A and reduce cost.

Paul began his career at Deloitte, where he was an audit partner in Chicago, serving clients of various sizes and industries, and in the National Office, helping integrate the firm’s major merger, resolving accounting issues for the firm’s clients and helping set accounting standards for investment securities and other areas. He is active in the Society of Insurance Financial Management, the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association, the Association for Corporate Growth, the Turnaround Management Association, the American Institute of CPAs and Financial Executives International.

Paul is a CPA and has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting from the University of Illinois. He lives in Stamford, Connecticut.
