Tanka Tlelima is a seasoned economist with extensive experience in monetary policy and economic research. Currently serving as Chief Economist and Head of the Research Department at the Central Bank of Lesotho since April 2018, Tanka leads a team of approximately 20 researchers, coordinating monetary policy activities and producing key economic reports. Previously, Tanka held roles as Principal Economist at the Central Bank of Lesotho and as Advisor/Senior Advisor to the Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund Institute for Capacity Building, contributing to the interests of the IMF Africa Group 1 Constituency. Tanka’s earlier experience includes a tenure as Senior Economist at the Central Bank of Lesotho, focusing on macroeconomic modeling and analysis. Tanka holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cape Town and advanced degrees from The University of Sheffield and the National University of Lesotho.
