David Mercado, P.E. currently serves as Vice President of High Voltage & System Operations at CenterPoint Energy, a position held since July 2021, where strategic leadership is provided to the Transmission, Substation, Real-Time Operations, and Distribution Control organizations while championing technological advancements. Prior roles at CenterPoint Energy include Director of Real-Time Operations, where oversight of transmission control center operations and regulatory compliance was emphasized, and Supervising Engineer for Transmission Planning Special Studies, leading a team in Generation Interconnection studies and compliance assessments. David also held the position of Lead Engineer for Transmission System Protection, managing relay protection schemes and coordinating compliance with NERC regulations. David obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rice University in 2003.
