Javier Selva has a diverse work experience spanning various sectors and roles. In 2003, they began their career as an Undergraduate Research Fellow at HAMK. From 2005 to 2006, Selva worked as a Research Fellow at IMIM | Hospital del Mar, focusing on implementing governmental policies related to persistent organic pollutants. Javier then transitioned to the University of Barcelona | Hospital ClÃnic, where they held multiple roles from 2006 to 2014, including Postdoctoral Researcher, Teaching Assistant, and PhD Student, conducting research in the fields of cardiovascular and neurosciences. Selva joined the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in 2014 and held various positions, such as EU Liaison Coordination, Project Manager, and Interim Head of Projects Office. Selva served as a Technical Adviser at Fenin, Federación Española de Empresas de TecnologÃa Sanitaria, where they focused on institutional relations, innovation positioning, and internationalization. Javier was also a Commission Member at Foment del Treball Nacional. In 2018, Selva joined the Generalitat de Catalunya as an EU R&I Health Programs Adviser. Their responsibilities included advising on health research and innovation programs and representing the Catalan Health Ministry in international research and European projects. Javier also served on the Advisory Committee on the Advertising of Health Products. Currently, Javier Selva holds the position of Chief Executive Officer at CataloniaBio & HealthTech, an organization representing companies in the biomedicine and health sector in Catalonia, with a focus on promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and the growth of the industry.
Javier Selva holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biomedicine from Universitat de Barcelona, which they obtained from 2008 to 2011. Javier also has a Master of Science (MS) degree in Neurosciences from the same university, completed from 2006 to 2008. Prior to that, Javier earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Biotechnology from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, graduating from 2000 to 2005. In 2003 to 2004, they pursued an Erasmus Internship in Environmental Biotechnology at Häme University of Applied Sciences, HAMK. Additionally, they completed a Manager's Specialization Programme in EU positioning & Internationalization from Spanish Office for Science & Technology (CDTI-SOST) in 2016. Javier also obtained a European Projects Management - Horizon 2020 certification from La Salle BCN in 2014. Lastly, they hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA) from EAE Business School, which they completed from 2017 to 2019. Javier's additional certification includes being a Research staff user of experimental animals, awarded by Generalitat de Catalunya in 2007.
