Ken D. Haynes

Enterprise EVP & President, Greater Charlotte Region at Carolinas HealthCare System

Ken D. Haynes, MSHA, MBA, FACHE, is enterprise executive vice president and president of the Greater Charlotte Region for Atrium Health, one of the largest non-profit and leading academic health systems in the United States. As a member of the executive leadership team, Haynes serves as the president of the multiple Charlotte tertiary and quaternary areas, all ambulatory surgery centers and free-standing emergency departments within the Greater Charlotte. Additionally, he is responsible for the strategic operational leadership and oversight of a variety of major service lines including Levine Cancer Institute, Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute, Musculoskeletal Institute, Neuroscience Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital and Children’s Services, as well as Carolina Healthcare System’s regional facilities including Columbus Regional Healthcare System, St. Luke’s Regional and Scotland Health Care System. Haynes is also responsible for Enterprise Shared Services including Nursing, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Imaging, the Facilities Management Group, Construction and Mobile Medicine.

With over 30 years of experience, Haynes joined Atrium Health in 2017. Previously, Haynes served as president and CEO for CHRISTUS Health’s Santa Rosa Hospital System in San Antonio, Texas, where he oversaw five hospitals, including Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, a full-service academic hospital affiliated with Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital also located in Houston. Additional leadership positions throughout his career include serving as president of the Saint Joseph Health System in Lexington, Kentucky, interim president of St. Vincent Health System in Little Rock, AR, chief operating officer of St. Vincent Health System in Little Rock, AR, and multiple senior leadership roles within Baptist Memorial Health Care System in Memphis, Tennessee.

Haynes currently serves as a member of the board of the North Carolina Healthcare Association (NCHA), Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, Student Life Leadership Council and Carolina’s Center for Specialty Surgery. Haynes is the executive sponsor of the One Team One Mission System Resource Group supporting veterans at Atrium Health and serves as health advisory council for the board of Charlotte Christian School. He is past chair of the American Heart Association Heart Challenge for the Charlotte Region. Throughout his career, he has served on multiple academic advisory councils and in various leadership roles within national, state and local hospital administration associations, and served on a variety of community Chambers of Commerce and Business Boards.

Haynes holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama, as well as a master’s degree in Health Administration and a master’s in business administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
