Sonali Setua, Ph.D.

Senior Research Scientist at BUGWORKS Research

Sonali Setua, Ph.D. has a wealth of experience in research and teaching. From 2002 to 2022, they have worked in a variety of roles at a number of different companies. Sonali began as a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of Calcutta in 2002. In 2006, they moved to the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology as a Masters Student Researcher, where they contributed to establishing the connection between genetic polymorphism (SNPs) of human nNOS gene & opioid addiction. From 2007 to 2010, they worked at the Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, where they constructed 3 fluorescent nanotools for cancer diagnosis, established and managed a teaching lab, and conducted Mol. Biology & Biochemistry practical classes for M. In 2010, they moved to the University of Cambridge as a Doctoral Researcher, where they devised a nanomedicine for Glioblastoma therapy, synthesised and characterised (ESI-MS) a tumor targeting peptide, and developed a biodistribution assay (ICP-MS) for nanoconjugate to analyse its tumour homing efficacy. Sonali also worked as a Scientific Consultant at the University of Cambridge. In 2014, they moved to Instituto de Medicina Molecular as a Postdoctoral Researcher, where they identified a lead compound for malaria prophylaxis by a small-molecule screen. In 2021, they moved to Pandorum Technologies Pvt. Ltd. as a Research Scientist, where they developed MSC-derived exosome-based therapeutics for regenerative purposes, and was involved in isolation and characterisation (physical and molecular) of therapeutic grade exosomes and functional validation of exosomes by cell-based assays. Sonali is currently working as a Senior Research Scientist at Bugworks Research Inc. since 2022.

Sonali Setua, Ph.D. has a comprehensive education history. Sonali obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Human Physiology from Rammohan College, University of Calcutta, India between 2002 and 2005. Sonali then went on to earn a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biochemistry from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Calcutta, India between 2005 and 2007. Finally, they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nanomedicine for Glioblastoma therapy from the University of Cambridge between 2010 and 2014.
