Nunzio Cotrufo has a diverse work experience in the field of energy efficiency and engineering. Nunzio began their career as a Consultant at a self-employed engineering firm, where they focused on thermal bridge catalogue production and evaluation using open-source software and programming languages. Nunzio then joined Concordia University as a Teaching Assistant while pursuing their Ph.D. in an unspecified field. After completing their Ph.D., they continued to work as a Teaching Assistant for one more year.
Following their time at the university, Cotrufo worked at CanmetENERGY-Varennes as a Research Engineer, specializing in an unknown field.
