Johann 'Cassie' Carstens is currently working as Secretarybird Conservation Manager at BirdLife South Africa. Prior to this, Cassie was a Research Technician for the Cape Parrot Project at Wild Bird Trust. With a background in environmental management and heritage and cultural tourism, Cassie has had experience as a Research Assistant for the Southern Ground Hornbill Research and Conservation Project at the Fitzpatrick Institute of African Ornithology. In the past, Cassie also served as a Lodge Manager and Guide at Sable Lodge, and as a Bartender at Hesperia London Victoria. Presenting and guiding experiences were gained at Tuks FM 107.2 and UP Campus Tour Agency respectively.
