Jacques Simoneau is a seasoned executive with a comprehensive experience in investment, venture capital, science and technology. He recently retired from his position as CEO and director of Gestion Univalor, a limited partnership created to commercialize innovations issued from University research. Prior to that, he led venture capital and private equity investment teams with billion-dollar portfolios as Executive Vice President, Investments for the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and as Senior Vice President of the Solidarity Fund QFL. He was also CEO of Hydro-Québec Capitech and Société Innovatech du sud du Québec, two specialized VC funds. He started his career as professor of engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada, and then successively joined Alcan (now Rio-Tinto Alcan) as research scientist and project leader, and Advanced Scientific Computing (now part of Ansys) as director of business development.

Dr. Simoneau is a director of Azimut Exploration inc., Transat A.T., Genome Canada, and Edilex inc. A trusted board member, he has been involved in 20+ board positions in public and private companies and in several non-profit organisations, including Sonaca N.A., chair of DiagnoCure inc., chair of the audit committee at Sustainable Development Technology Canada, the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association, and the Conseil de la science et de la technologie du Québec.

Dr. Simoneau is an engineer and holds a M.Sc. from Laval University and a Ph.D. from Queen’s University. He is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and of Professional Engineers Ontario, and he is certified ICD.D by the Institute of Corporate Directors.
