About the Role

Reports To: Dean of Student and Community Affairs

Role Summary: The Director of Coaching, Counseling and Academic Advising is instrumental in promoting the mental health and well-being of the University community. This position involves overseeing the development, implementation, and coordination of comprehensive counseling services for students, staff and faculty.  The Director is responsible for managing a team of professional counselors, well-being coaches, academic advisors and a student support team. In addition, the Director ensures collaboration with other university departments, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality mental health services. Finally, the Director edits course content for the mandatory fresher College Success course. The Director will staff and schedule all modules.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Coaching, Counseling and Academic Advising department that aligns with the University's mission and values.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in counseling and mental health services.

Team Management:

  • Train, and supervise a team comprised of counselors, psychologists, wellness coaches and academic advisors and support staff.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages professional development and growth.

Program Development and Evaluation:

  • Design and implement mental health coaching, counseling and academic advising programs that address the diverse needs of the student population.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of mental health services through data collection and analysis.

Crisis Intervention:

  • Provide leadership and coordination in responding to mental health crises on campus.
  • Collaborate with campus and community resources to enhance crisis response capabilities.

Outreach and Education:

  • Develop and implement outreach initiatives to raise awareness of mental health issues and available services.
  • Provide psychoeducational programs and workshops on mental health and wellness topics.

Policy Development:

  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures related to counseling services, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and legal requirements.

Budget Management:

  • Develop, manage, efficiently allocate the budget to meet the needs of the student population.

Data and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling services and activities.

  • Prepare reports for university administration.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or any related field.
  • Have 8-10 years relevant work experience in counseling or psychotherapy, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in mental health and counseling.
