Akiko Noma

Director In Research at Ascidian Therapeutics

Akiko Noma has a long and varied work experience. Akiko began their career as a Master and Bachelor Student at Kyushu Institute of Technology in 1997, then worked as a Teaching Assistant at the same institute in 2001. From 2002 to 2004, they were a PhD student and Postdoc at The University of Tokyo, where they identified the genes responsible for RNA modification and characterized RNA modification enzymes. During this time, they also worked as a Research Assistant at JSPS 21st century COE program and iGENE Therapeutics. In 2004, they moved to the United States and became a Research Scientist I at the Broad Institute. From 2017 to 2019, they held the roles of Senior Scientist Group Lead and Scientist II Group Lead at Casebia Therapeutics. Akiko then moved to Tessera Therapeutics, where they served as Principal Scientist Team Lead from 2019 to 2020. Currently, they are Associate Director at Ascidian Therapeutics.

Akiko Noma obtained their Bachelor's degree in Bioscience and Bioinformatics from Kyushu Institute of Technology in 2001. Akiko then went on to receive their Master's degree in Life Science from The University of Tokyo in 2004. Following this, they obtained their Advanced Biotechnologist Certification from the Japan Association of Biotechnology Education (JABE) in February 2001. In 2007, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Engineering from The University of Tokyo. In 2018, they obtained the Algorithms for DNA Sequencing certification from Coursera.
