James Barton has had a varied and extensive career in the poultry industry. James began their career in 1996 as a Veterinarian at Cargill, where they worked for 9 years. In 2005, they moved to Tyson Foods to become their Senior Veterinarian & Poultry Welfare Specialist, a role they held for two years. In 2007, they established their own practice, James T. Barton, DVM, where they provided veterinary care, animal welfare auditing, program verification auditing, and product technical support. In 2008, they took on a Process Coach role at Process Management Consulting and a Laboratory Director role at The Poultry Federation, where they modernized a serologic laboratory and advised the Executive Director on disease control and food safety. In 2012, they became the Director of Technical Services at Pacific Vet Group, USA, and in 2015, they moved to Novozymes as their Technical Services Veterinarian. In 2017, they joined Adisseo_NCA as their Director of Technical Services, and they currently work as the Director, Poultry Technical Marketing at Ancera, a position they have held since 2020.
James Barton began their education in 1981 at Fayetteville High School East, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Poultry Science from the University of Arkansas from 1982 to 1986. James then obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Louisiana State University from 1986 to 1990. After this, they completed a residency in Poultry Medicine at the University of California, Davis from 1990 to 1992. In 1992, they became a Diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians. In 1997, they were granted a Veterinarian license by the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Examining Board. In 2018, they became a Charter Diplomate of the American College of Animal Welfare.
