Helen Townend has over 20 years of work experience in the field of engineering geology and diversity and inclusion. Helen started their career as an Engineering Geologist at Golder Associates in 1994 and worked there for four years before moving on to Donaldson Associates Ltd, where they served as a Principal Engineering Geologist for ten years. In 2008, they joined Amey as a Principal Geotechnical Engineer and later took on various roles, including Technical Director for Diversity and Inclusion and Technical Director for Ground Engineering. Their responsibilities at Amey included guiding the technical quality of the Ground Engineering team, building relationships with clients, and championing inclusion and driving change within the business. Helen provided inclusive management training and developed a business inclusion strategy. Helen is also actively involved in industry organizations and initiatives, such as being a judge for the Ground Engineering Awards and serving as a member of the CIRIA Project Steering Group.
Helen Townend obtained their Master of Science (MSc) degree in Engineering Geology from the University of Leeds, where they studied from 1998 to 2002. Additionally, they earned the certification of Chartered Geologist (CGeol) from The Geological Society of London in 1999.
