Joe Martorella, MA, vice president of technology for Zynx Health, exemplifies the mission of improving quality, safety, and efficiency in healthcare. In his role, Joe is responsible for establishing the vision, strategy, and implementation of the technology infrastructure and development processes companywide.
Joe is no stranger to the Hearst Health Network. Prior to his current role, Joe served as the director of software development for First Databank — a sister company to Zynx. Joe is well-versed in the health tech space as his roots go beyond his time within the network.
Before joining Hearst Health, Joe served as director of technology at GenSys Software (later Infotrieve) and was responsible for designing and implementing the GenSys ELN (Electronic Laboratory Notebook), an FDA-compliant enterprise software application for life science research and development.
ELN was the first electronic notebook to receive the full endorsement of the Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems Association (CENSA) and was also awarded Scientific Computing & Instrumentation Magazine’s “Top Data Management Product” for two consecutive years.
In addition to his contributions in healthcare, Joe also has an extensive background in building, provisioning, and maintaining large-scale websites and web-based applications.
Early on in his career, Joe worked as a senior systems architect at US Interactive, an internet consulting company. There, Joe led development efforts for a host of B2B and B2C consumer websites with clients including CitiGroup, Bank of America, and Toyota, to name a few.
As technology manager for the Disney Internet Group, Joe was responsible for a team of 30 developers whose portfolio of website projects included Disneyland, Disney Cruise Lines, and Disney Parks.
Joe holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a master’s degree from the University of Virginia.
