John Maddox serves as Senior Director, Safety Policy & Strategy at Zoox since May 2022, following a tenure at Lyft as Senior Director of Autonomous Safety and Compliance. Prior to these roles, John held positions including President & CEO at the American Center for Mobility, where the focus was on developing a national testing facility for Connected and Automated vehicle technology. Contributions also include assisting as Assistant Director at the University of Michigan Mobility Transformation Center, overseeing research initiatives in Connected and Automated vehicle technology, and leading collaborative strategies in transportation research at the University of Michigan Transportation Institute and Texas Transportation Institute. Previous experience includes significant roles at NHTSA and Volkswagen, emphasizing vehicle safety research and compliance with regulatory standards. John’s educational background includes a Master’s in Engineering Management from the University of Detroit Mercy and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
