Kristy McCarron

Vice President, Community Health And Wellness at YMCA of Washington DC

Kristy McCarron, MPH has a diverse work experience in the field of community health and wellness. Kristy began their career as a House Assistant at L'Arche Spokane with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest in 2009. Kristy then worked as a Line Cook at Restaurant Nora from 2011 to 2012 before founding and serving as a Culinary & Nutrition Instructor at The Food Lab at Walker Jones from 2011 to 2013. In 2013, they joined the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington as a Healthy Eating Specialist until 2018 when they became the Director of Community Health. In this role, they created the association's Community Health Department, oversaw health interventions and anti-hunger programs for 15 association branches. From 2016 to 2019, they also served as a Regional Facilitator for the Anti-Hunger Program at YMCA of the USA, providing support to YMCA associations implementing federal feeding programs. In 2019, they joined the DC Government as an Appointed Member of the Food Policy Council and Chair of the Healthy Youth and Schools Commission. Kristy is also a Member of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior since 2018. Currently, they hold the position of Vice President of Community Health and Wellness at the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, where they oversee the strategy and operations of the Association's Community Health Department and six branch Wellness Departments.

Kristy McCarron, MPH earned a Master's Degree in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from 2016-2018. Kristy also completed a Certificate in Food Systems and Public Health during the same time period. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology, General from The Catholic University of America from 2005-2009. In 2011, they attended The New England Culinary Institute to study Culinary Arts and in 2012, they completed a program in Food Education at The Edible Schoolyard.
