Laura McDowell, P.Eng., has extensive engineering and leadership experience in public works, particularly within York Region since September 1998. Currently serving as Commissioner of Public Works, Laura provides strategic direction and oversees key services, including water and wastewater, waste management, and transportation systems. Previous roles include General Manager of Operations & Services and Director of Environmental Promotion and Protection, where Laura focused on operational excellence, public health, and environmental protection. Laura's earlier experience at Marshall Macklin Monaghan involved project engineering across various municipal and private sector projects. Laura holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering from the University of Guelph, earned in January 1992.
