Luis Duany-Blanco

Assistant Superintendent, Professional Development at Yonkers Public Schools

Luis Duany-Blanco is the current Assistant Superintendent of Professional Development for Yonkers Public Schools.

Previously, they served as a Leadership Mentor for the Puerto Rico Education Foundation from February 2019 to December 2020, coaching regional superintendent in creating new processes, establishing strong managerial practices, and leading a team of staff in developing instructional systems for student learning. Luis also supported the Superintendent with administering all the human and fiscal resources in the LEA Region to carry out the work plans that respond to state public policy; tracking and leveraging data for each of the 121 schools in the Region; and creating robust monitoring and tracking systems for the Region’s professional-development efforts. In addition, they coached the Regional Superintendent in management of a high-level team, as well as individual team members in Accountability and Academic Affairs.

From October 2013 to December 2019, Duany-Blanco served as Director of School Support for INTERNATIONALS NETWORK FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS, INC. In this role, they were responsible for providing direct support to a portfolio of 15+ schools across four states in areas related to school improvement planning, leadership development, data analysis and use, and instructional support.

Prior to that, Duany-Blanco served as Senior Achievement/Principal Coach for the NYC Dept of Education from January 2008 to September 2013. In this role, they coached principals and developed school-based teams on effective instructional leadership and classroom management strategies that resulted in improved student achievement.

Luis Duany-Blanco is the Director of the Center for School Leadership at Bank Street College of Education. Luis has a School Administrator License from the NYC Leadership Academy and Baruch College. Luis has a MA in Mathematics Education/Bilingual from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a MPP in Public Policy, Education/Human Services from Harvard Kennedy School. Luis also has a BA in Anthropology, French from Columbia University.

Luis Duany-Blanco reports to Edwin M. Quezada, Superintendent of Schools. They are on a team with Dawn Bartz - Executive Director, Digital Learning & Instructional Technology, Social Studies PK-12, RoseAnne Collins-Judon - Assistant Superintendent, Secondary Administration, and Luis Rodriguez - Assistant Superintendent, Special Education & Pupil Support Services.
