Sonya Reyes Owens has a diverse work experience in the medical and social work field. Sonya started their career as a Community Mental Health Therapist at Family and Children Services in 2003. Sonya then moved on to Hillcrest Healthcare System as a Medical/Clinical Social Worker in 2003 and worked there until 2009. From 2004 to 2009, they served as an Oncology Clinical Social Worker at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. In 2010, they joined UT Southwestern Medical Center as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and remained there until 2020. Most recently, Sonya holds the position of Executive Vice President at Xander Staffing, starting in October 2018.

Sonya Reyes Owens received their Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Oklahoma in 2003.
