Thamara Hewavitharana

Thamara Hewavitharana, Ph.D. has a range of research experience in the field of molecular biology and calcium regulation. Thamara has worked as a Scientist at WuXi Advanced Therapies since 2017. Prior to that, they were a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Thomas Jefferson University Medical College from 2010 to 2017, where they focused on mitochondrial calcium regulation and signaling, as well as the functions of G(\u03b2\u03b3) subunits of Heterotrimeric G proteins in cancer cell metastasis and diabetes treatment. Before that, they were a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine from 2007 to 2010, where they studied the molecular mechanisms of calcium regulation and the function of STIM and Orai proteins in generating immune responses. Thamara also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 2002 to 2007, investigating receptor-mediated cellular calcium signaling pathways.

Thamara Hewavitharana, Ph.D. completed their education in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Thamara earned their Ph.D. from this institution, studying from 2002 to 2007.
