Mayara Fontes Marx, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience in various research and analysis roles. Mayara is currently working as a Senior Researcher at the Wounded Warrior Project since April 2021. Prior to this, they served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Cape Town from March 2020 to August 2021, where they explored the cost and budget implications of reporting back the findings in genetic research in Africa. Mayara also worked as a PHD Candidate at the University of Cape Town from February 2016 to August 2020.

Before joining the University of Cape Town, Mayara worked as a Reporting Analyst at American Student Assistance from September 2014 to March 2016. Mayara gained research experience as a Research Intern at the University of Cape Town from June 2014 to September 2014, where they worked on projects related to alcohol burden analysis and gender issues.

Mayara has also worked as a Research Assistant at The Mauricio Gastón Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy from September 2012 to June 2014. Their earliest work experience was as an Administrative Assistant at the Venture Development Center at UMass from September 2010 to September 2012.

Mayara Fontes Marx, PhD has a strong educational background in the fields of public health and economics. Mayara obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Public Health from the University of Cape Town, which they pursued from 2016 to 2020. Prior to that, they completed a Master's degree in Applied Economics at UMass Boston from 2012 to 2014. Mayara also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from UMass Boston, which they acquired from 2010 to 2011. Furthermore, they obtained an Associate degree in Business Administration from Bunker Hill CC from 2008 to 2010.

In addition to their formal education, Mayara has also pursued additional certifications. Mayara completed the MWI's Negotiation Skills Workshop in October 2015, and in October 2014, they obtained the SAS SQL 1: Essentials certification from the SAS Institute. Mayara also acquired the Analytics: Putting It All to Work certification from the SAS Institute in September 2014.
