Yann Golanski

Director of IT Security at Worldr

Yann Golanski has had a long and varied career in the software engineering and IT security fields. Yann started their career in 1995 as a Second Lieutenant in the French Navy, where they taught French to officers and cadets at the Polish National Defence Academy. In 1999, they joined Energis Ltd (formerly The Planet Online Ltd) as a Core Systems Developer and Senior Developer. Here, they expanded Freeserve's email system to handle ten million users, including development of management utilities (C, Perl) for use by the Support Team and enhancing the Exim (SMTP) software package. In 2001, they joined Ioko365 Ltd (formerly Info Com Ltd) as a Systems Architect, where they developed (C) a secure solution to gather and process large-scale medical data. Yann also worked at the University of York from 2001-2007 as a Research Fellow in Mathematics. During this time, they managed several research projects and produced bespoke and enhanced existing modelling software (C, C++, Python, MPI, OpenGL). From 2007-2011, they worked at Nanometric LTD, York as a Senior Linux Software Engineer. Here, they designed modern performance critical software for metrology and wrote a C++ library to map nonlinearity in hardware controlled by a GUI. In 2009, they joined Bytemark Consultancy Limited as a Software Developer, where they supported and developed existing and new internal software. Finally, in 2020, they joined Worldr as Director of IT Security and Senior Software Developer. Here, they promoted Agile and Lean best practices for software engineering, championed end-to-end testing, continuous integration, and software documentation.

Yann Golanski began their education in 1981 at Lakanal. Yann then attended Cours Marcel Proust from 1990 to 1991, where they earned their Baccalaureat in Sciences section. From 1991 to 1994, they attended the University of Kent, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physics and Astrophysics. Yann then attended the University of York from 1996 to 2001, where they earned a DPhil in Theoretical Astrophysics.
