Filipe Beato began their work experience in 2005 as a Junior Consultant at CGI. Filipe then worked as a Security Researcher at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories from 2006 to 2007. From 2007 to 2012, they held various roles as a Research Visitor at UC Irvine and as a Software Engineer at Critical Software.
In 2008, Beato joined COSIC (KU Leuven) as a Doctoral Researcher, where they conducted research in applied cryptography and developed privacy-enhancing tools and security protocols. Filipe also collaborated with research and industry institutes on social network privacy and security issues. After completing their doctorate in 2015, Beato continued their work at COSIC as a Postdoctoral Researcher until 2016.
From 2016 to 2018, Beato worked at PwC Belgium, first as a Senior Consultant and later as a Manager. Filipe advised and managed teams on projects for the European Commission.
In 2018, Beato joined Boston Consulting Group (BCG) as a Project Leader at BCG Platinion, where they remained until 2020.
Since 2020, Beato has been involved with the World Economic Forum. Filipe initially served as a Project Lead for Industry Solutions and is currently the Lead of the Centre for Cybersecurity, responsible for cyber resilience in various industries.
Throughout their career, Beato has published multiple papers and given talks on cryptography and security topics. Filipe has also contributed to the development of metrics for biometric template protection protocols and worked on projects supported by NIST BTPMetrics.
Filipe Beato has a strong educational background in the field of computer engineering. Filipe obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computer Engineering from KU Leuven, where they studied from 2011 to 2015. Prior to that, they completed their Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science at the University of Bristol, from 2007 to 2008. Filipe'sinitial undergraduate education was in Electronic and Computer Engineering, earning a Bachelor of Science (MEng) degree from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where they studied from 2000 to 2005.
In addition to their formal education, Filipe Beato has also obtained various certifications. Filipe completed the "Strategy in the Age of Digital Disruption" program at INSEAD in January 2022. Other certifications include the "Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)" from (ISC)² in September 2019, the "PRINCE2® Foundation Certification Training" from PeopleCert in March 2018, and the "Advanced Open Water Diver" certification from SSI Scuba Schools International in September 2015. Filipe also received the "Aicep Inov Contact C9" certification from aicep Portugal Global in February 2006.
