Joseph Baumann has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Joseph has held multiple leadership roles in various organizations, showcasing their expertise in legal counsel and strategic business advice. From 2016 to the present, Baumann worked at Wolverine Power Cooperative, initially as Vice President & General Counsel, and then as Chief Legal Officer. In these roles, they managed legal services, provided strategic direction, and oversaw regulatory affairs and risk mitigation. Before that, from 2013 to 2016, Baumann served as General Counsel for the Michigan Supreme Court, offering legal counsel, advocating for the judiciary, and interacting with government branches. Prior to that, they were Majority Counsel for the Michigan House of Representatives, where they provided legal advice to the caucus, directed litigation defense, and acted as a policy advisor. Baumann's experience also includes working as an Associate at Dykema Gossett PLLC, where they litigated cases and contributed to public policy development, and as a Special Assistant and Legal Analyst at the Michigan Department of Community Health, providing legal counsel and coordinating Medicaid policies. Earlier in their career, Baumann served as a Legislative Assistant in the Michigan Legislature, supervising complex legislation and conducting research.
Joseph Baumann attended Western Michigan University Cooley Law School from 2003 to 2006, where they obtained their J.D. degree with magna cum laude honors. Prior to that, from 1997 to 2000, they studied International Relations at Michigan State University and received their BA degree.
