Louis Peraertz has a diverse work experience in the field of policy and law. Louis started their career as an Appellate Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice in 1994, where they represented the United States in numerous federal court appeals related to civil rights statutes. Louis served as lead counsel in over 60 cases and presented oral arguments in 14 appeals.
In 2000, Louis moved on to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), where they held various roles over the years. Louis initially served as a Special Counsel in the Office of General Counsel, advising on complex and controversial issues in satellite technology, cable television, and mass media. Louis successfully defended all six Commission orders assigned to him and presented oral arguments in four cases.
Louis later became a Senior Legal Advisor to Commissioner Mignon L. Clyburn in October 2009. In this role, they advised Commissioner Clyburn on more than 300 FCC orders and proposed rules, focusing on promoting competition and investment in the wireless, satellite, and public safety industries. Louis played a key role in matters such as spectrum sharing and finding more spectrum for unlicensed use.
In March 2016, Louis transitioned to the role of Special Counsel in the Office of General Counsel, where they advised a task force on promoting wireless deployment in health services and addressed challenging policy questions. Louis also managed staff work on wireless company mergers, including the Sprint-Nextel merger worth $35 billion.
Louis's final role at the FCC was serving as a Senior Legal Advisor to FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn starting in September 2017. Louis advised Commissioner Clyburn on over 300 domestic regulations involving wireless, satellite, public safety services, and international communications policies. Louis played a key role in policies related to dynamic spectrum sharing and finding more spectrum for unlicensed uses.
Louis Peraertz currently holds the position of Vice President of Policy at WISPA - Wireless Internet Service Provider's Association, starting in July 2019.
