Wendy Sawatzky started their work experience in 2001 as a Senior Writer (Online) for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In this role, they were responsible for writing, editing, and posting news content focused on Manitoba. Wendy also created supplementary audio, video, maps, and graphics. In 2006, Wendy joined Journalists for Human Rights as a Trainer, where they built the capacity of Ghanaian media workers to report on human rights issues. Wendy also served as the editor of the social justice section of the Ghanaian Chronicle newspaper and provided training workshops on journalism and human rights law. Wendy then worked as an Online Editor for the Winnipeg Free Press from 2008 to 2012, overseeing digital platforms and coordinating editorial production. Wendy implemented social media strategies and managed the appearance and structure of news content. In 2011, Wendy became an Election Observer for the Commonwealth Secretariat and observed national and regional elections in Guyana. Overall, Wendy has extensive experience in digital news management, editorial production, and capacity building in journalism.
Wendy Sawatzky has a diverse educational background. In 1992, they completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at The University of Winnipeg. Following that, they pursued a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of King's College, which they obtained in 2001.
Wendy also engaged in various continuing education programs. In 2007, they studied Financial Accounting at the University of Manitoba Continuing Education. Additionally, in 2011, they attended the University of Winnipeg Continuing Education to learn about Programming Technologies.
Furthermore, Wendy attended the University of King's College in 2011, where they participated in the Summer Data Journalism School.
To enhance their professional skills, Wendy obtained a CP Style Certification at the Advanced Level from The Canadian Press in August 2023.
