MJ Lopez has work experience in various roles within the wine industry. They started in 2018 as a Direct to Consumers Assistant at Rombauer Vineyards, where they worked until December 2021. From January to April 2022, they served as a Wine Club Coordinator at Davis Estates. Currently, they are working as an Account Coordinator at WineDirect since May 2022. Before their wine industry experience, they worked as a Receiving Manager at BevMo! from June 2016 to March 2018. They also have prior experience as a Keyholder at Aerosoles from October 2014 to December 2016, and as an Assistant Manager at Wink Optics in August to November 2016. Additionally, they worked as a Keyholder at BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP in February to June 2016, and at ANN INC. (parent company of Ann Taylor, LOFT & Lou & Grey) from December 2014 to February 2016.

MJ Lopez attended Napa Valley College in 2016, where they received a 911 POST Dispatch Certificate in Law Enforcement. Prior to that, in 2014, MJ enrolled in Napa Valley College to study Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration, but it is unclear when they completed this program or if a degree was obtained. Additionally, MJ Lopez obtained a certification titled "Top 10 Rules for Highly Effective Leadership" from LinkedIn in January 2023.
