Jordan Smith has extensive work experience in engineering and management roles. Since 2022, they have been serving as the Vice President of Engineering at Windfall Bio. Prior to that, from 2014 to their current position, they worked as an Engineer at Greensmith Water Resource Engineering. From 2021 to 2022, they worked as a Senior Utilities Engineer at the California Public Utilities Commission. Between 2018 and 2020, they worked as an Engineer at the State Water Resources Control Board. From 2008 to 2014, they held the position of Director of Engineering at Aurora Algae, Inc, where they managed engineering projects and led the permitting and design efforts for a production facility. Earlier in their career, they worked as a Water Resource Engineer at PBS&J International Inc from 2006 to 2008, and as an Engineer at Brown and Caldwell from 1999 to 2006.

Jordan Smith attended Delta High School. After graduation, they went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, where they studied from 1991 to 1996. Following their undergraduate degree, Jordan pursued a Master of Science degree in Biological Engineering at The University of Georgia from 1996 to 1998.
