Derek Sharman is a seasoned technology professional with extensive experience in cloud engineering, software development, and technical leadership. Currently serving as a Senior Cloud Engineer at WestJet since August 2016, Derek advocates for cloud migration and supports the company's IT performance objectives. Previously, as a Cloud Technical Lead, Derek established WestJet's presence in AWS and Azure, achieving key milestones in operational excellence. With prior roles including Senior Software Engineer Team Lead and Build/Release Technical Lead, Derek has a strong background in software development best practices and release management. In addition to a successful career at WestJet, Derek owns Biological Designs Ltd., a commercial landscape design and construction company. Derek holds two Bachelor's degrees in Cellular, Molecular, Microbial Biology and Ecology, along with a Graduate Diploma in Object-Oriented Software Technology from the University of Calgary.
