Lars Hellsten is a highly experienced software engineer currently serving as a Staff Software Engineer and Tech Lead at Waymo since September 2017, focusing on the development of onboard motion planning software for autonomous vehicles. Prior to this role, Lars spent over twelve years at Google, where responsibilities included building algorithms and infrastructure for the spelling correction engine and developing a transliteration engine, language models, and gesture decoding algorithms for GBoard. Lars holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Combinatorics and Optimization from the University of Waterloo.
