David Wachira, PhD, is a co-founder and CEO of Waya, a fintech startup focused on serving underbanked immigrant communities, where significant achievements include app-based banking account launches and substantial deposit volume growth. Previously, David served in various capacities at The World Bank, including co-founder and COO, operations officer, and public sector specialist, where leadership of a $100 million multi-donor trust fund and development of transparency programs in the extractives sector were key contributions. Academic experience includes roles as assistant professor at Wiley College and adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University, along with teaching fellow and research assistant positions at the University of North Texas. David holds a PhD in Public Administration and Management from the University of North Texas, supplemented by a master's degree in history and a bachelor's degree in political science and history.
