David Stern is an engineer at Warp. David previously worked at YouTube as a staff software engineer from August 2014 to July 2021. David was engineering lead for the YouTube live interactivity platform. David oversaw design, development, and maintenance of the serving stack, internal and external APIs, and 6 first-party clients, serving millions of chat messages per second and supporting live streams with millions of viewers. David guided platform growth from one core development team to a network of teams providing monetization and Google Stadia features, with contributions from more than 50 engineers. Stern was also one of the two original engineers of gaming.youtube.com. David built out core site infrastructure, serving pipeline, and release processes.
Prior to working at YouTube, Stern was a software engineer at Google from August 2012 to August 2014. David worked on the Gmail Monetization Frontend team, expanding support for Gmail native ads to where it could replace the original AdSense-based monetization strategy.
Stern has also worked as a visiting researcher at Rutgers University from June 2011 to August 2011, and as a student researcher at Brown University from June 2010 to September 2010.
David Stern received their Sc. B. in Computer Science from Brown University in the United States.
