The role:

We have an exciting opportunity in the technology department for a lead engine developer to join us. We are looking for an enthusiastic person who wants to join our adventure, to be part of a company that is disrupting the market with an innovative product. 

We're looking for an experienced candidate to lead the development of a new geospatial data platform using Unreal Engine.

  • Working within the Engine Team to architect, build and maintain the new platform.

  • Supporting a team with mixed game-engine background through the transition from Unity to Unreal, including maintenance and update of the existing platform.

  • Mentoring Developers in their day-to-day work, on departmental processes and best-practices. Lead by example.

  • Identifying issues affecting team output / performance, and facilitating the resolution of those issues.

  • Identifying, defining and deploying tactics, tools and solutions that achieve business objectives;

  • Management of team delivery, including attendance at all team planning sessions, and keeping team members briefed on changes to agreed plans / strategies.

  • Supporting product/project management cycles by helping the product team to prioritise requirements.

  • Manage interfaces with the Modelling, Data, Web, QA and Support Teams.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Team leadership experience.

  • Significant experience in the development of complex, professional applications using Unreal Engine.

  • Significant experience of using a mixture of Blueprints and C++ in Unreal Engine.

  • Experience of using, managing and maintaining version control solutions.

  • An excellent understanding of:

  • Integrations with external systems.

  • Automated data import pipelines.

  • Data structures.

  • Software architecture, design patterns and algorithms.

  • Agile principles.

  • An affinity for prioritising complex product requirements and reducing them to manageable tasks.

  • Be an excellent problem solver and effective communicator, with a positive can-do attitude.

  • Self motivated with a passion for continual professional development.

  • Personal, adaptable and flexible with the ability to work successfully in a fast-paced changing environment

  • Demonstrates both strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently

  • Must be available to attend quarterly company meetings held in the office in person.

  • Be human and ready to have fun.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in the creative application of engine features.

  • Experience in the use of web-based 3d frameworks and/or alternative game engines.

  • Experience of other coding languages, especially Python for pipeline management.

  • Experience in the use of pixel streaming in Unreal or other game engines.

  • Experience of GIS, data engineering, data analysis, AI, BIM, computational engineering or procedural/traditional 3d modelling.
