Marius van Niekerk has a strong background in software engineering and data analysis. Marius is currently working as a Principal Engineer at Voltron Data since August 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Flatiron Health as a Staff Software Engineer from March 2017 to August 2021.

Before joining Flatiron Health, Marius worked at MaxPoint for several years. At MaxPoint, they held the role of Senior Computational Engineer, where they focused on building tools and facilitating communication between the data science and data engineering teams. Marius had a particular emphasis on scaling solutions to handle massive datasets, utilizing technologies such as Hive, Impala, Spark, and MapReduce. Marius also worked as a Senior Data Scientist at MaxPoint before transitioning into the computational engineering role.

Marius started their career at CIMSO as a Software Engineer from June 2007 to March 2012.

Marius van Niekerk completed their education at Stellenbosch University. Marius began by earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Actuarial Science, which they completed from 2004 to 2006. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Mathematical Statistics, which they completed in 2007. Finally, Marius obtained a Master of Science degree in Mathematical Statistics from Stellenbosch University, which they completed from 2008 to 2012.
