Bilal Zafar has a diverse work experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Bilal started their career as a co-founder of SBZtech in 2004 and worked there until 2008. After that, they joined Swiss Re and worked in various roles, including Risk Modeler, Reinsurance Underwriter, and Senior Business Development Manager. At Swiss Re, they were involved in innovative projects and had the opportunity to train under top actuaries in the industry. In 2015, they joined GGH Ltd. as a Director, where they played a key role in the successful turnaround of underwriting performance and participated in due diligence exercises for new investment opportunities. Currently, Bilal is the Managing Director at Imara, a reinsurance provider and part of the Volante Global Group.

Bilal Zafar's education history begins with their obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Business and IT from Curtin University in the period between 2000 and 2004. Subsequently, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Economic Science from the University of Geneva, which they completed from 2005 to 2008. In 2018, Bilal attended Harvard Business School Executive Education, where they undertook a program in Global Strategic Management.

Alongside their formal education, Bilal has also obtained several certifications. In 2003, they achieved a Diploma in Telecommunication. In 2012, they became an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII), and three years later, in 2015, they obtained the Chartered Insurer designation from the Chartered Insurance Institute.
