Stephen Whyte has extensive work experience in the housing and nonprofit sectors. Stephen founded Vitus in 1993, a company focused on restoring and renewing affordable housing. Under their leadership, Vitus has created over 15,000 units in 29 states. Stephen is dedicated to addressing the nation's housing crisis and is known for their innovation and problem-solving abilities.
Stephen has also been involved with various organizations. Since 2012, they have served on the board of directors for the Seattle Symphony and led several committees, including the Finance Committee. As a lifelong musician, Stephen understands the importance of music and believes that the Seattle Symphony is a cultural ambassador.
In 2008, Stephen became a council member and later the chair of the Affordable/Workforce Housing Council at the Urban Land Institute. Stephen contributed to the development of housing solutions and collaborated with senior housing professionals.
Stephen has been a board member of Up for Growth since 2019 and holds the position of secretary. Up for Growth aims to address the housing affordability crisis through research and education. Stephen is passionate about elevating the conversation surrounding housing affordability in the country.
Stephen Whyte attended Pacific Lutheran University from 1975 to 1979, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. During their time at the university, they specialized in European History and Economics.
